San Francisco filmmaker Konrad Steiner took 12 years to complete a montage cycle set to the late Leslie Scalapino’s most celebrated poem, way—a sprawling book-length odyssey of shardlike urban impressions, fraught with obliquely felt social and sexual tensions. Six stylistically distinctive films for each section of way, using sources ranging from Kodachrome footage of sun-kissed S.F. street scenes to internet clips of the Iraq war to a fragmented Fred Astaire dance number.

In November 2009, filmmaker Cameron Crowe began filming a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the album The Union, a collaboration between musicians Elton John and Leon Russell, who hadn't spoken to one another in 38 years prior to beginning work on the album. In addition, the documentary offers a rare glimpse into the process John goes through to create and compose his music. Featured in the film are musicians Neil Young, Brian Wilson, Booker T. Jones, steel guitarist Robert Randolph, Don Was and a 10-piece gospel choir who all contribute to the album, which is produced by award-winning producer T-Bone Burnett. A secret jet aircraft capable of traveling three times the speed of sound is being developed by a group of scientists. On the day of the test flight, one of the scientists dies in a mysterious accident, and there are many arguments concerning the flight itself; some think it should be ground-controlled while Heathley (James Donald) wants it to be a manned flight with himself at the controls. Conflict also arises when one of his fellow scientists, taking advantage of Heathley's lack of attention toward his wife, Lydia (Phyllis Calvert), makes some moves on her. Then there is the question of just who is the enemy agent on the project.

The Peruvian Galapagos Islands feature in Hammer’s film Endangered, where Blue-footed Boobies, seals and iguanas are equated with the filmmaker herself who identifies light, life and the genre of experimental film to be threatened with extinction in this late twentieth century. Every image is marked and cancelled before it disappears. Even the emulsion of the film is treated with acid showing its fragility. The film is a highly effective compilation of image, colour and sound building upon each other, slowly heightening the sense of urgency. Against this mood there is a reassuring image of a silhouetted woman working at the film projector. A strong, competent, fearless woman. Woman documenting, warning, saving.

    2014-02-06
Miklós Fenyő's evergreen lines could be the beginning of the Karinthy-ringed rock'n'roll humorist László Hadházi's solo evening. Everything is given: enthusiastic audience, light and sound equipment, stage, kitchen and beer masterpieces, guitar, guest speakers. "I've picked up some local stories. Stories that are truly Hungarian, in the best and funniest sense of the word. There are many things in our mentality that a foreigner doesn't understand even if he has lived here for years. It's natural for us, but we end up laughing at it ourselves. That's what the title refers to: 'Méd in Hungeráj', says Laci, who is always in his element. He introduces the stage, talks about the family, takes me on trips abroad, inland, to Debrecen, even behind the soundproofed door of the oral surgery, sings with Bruti and Tibor Aradi, while all the stories are Hungarian. Very Hungarian.
