This is a must see for fans of great cinema music. Perhaps alongside John Williams and John Barry, the eponymous maestro has scored in an unique and innovative way, a great many films since the 1960s and this film tracks how he rose from a classical music training to an (eventual) Oscar winner. It does suffer from the perennial problem of films like this, we see (and hear) too little of his marvellous works - especially my own favourite "Ecstasy of Gold" - but the narrative offers a quickly paced series of contributions from those well known, and those less so. It is astonishing just how many films he did provide the music for, some of it truly memorable and some of it truly dreadful - but here we see a man who never shied away from pushing the boundaries. His creative use of vocals, even of a typewriter to create his sounds demonstrates well his almost boundless imagination. Though at times a little dry, this documentary lays that skill and passion engagingly before us. Bertolucci, Eastwood and Joffé all contribute in a fashion that avoids the adulatory, and makes this an enjoyable chronology not just of Morricone himself, but of world cinema too.

- Senza fine2022-02-24A timeless spa town, a 1940s hotel, a place that transports the present to who knows where. Not the past, Ornella Vanoni's life, but the revelation—current—of her intimacy, exhibited through a relationship: her relationship with the director. The energy, the character, the music, the confrontations, the heat, the fatigue. Everything is filmed without sparing anything, not even the arguments between Ornella and Elisa. The film goes along with what Ornella naturally generates and bends to the unexpected, to the present. And then there are the encounters with friends, musicians, Vinicio Capossela, Samuele Bersani, Paolo Fresu's trumpet resounding in the empty spaces of the grand hotel where, between identical days marked by care and treatment, the story, the memory, but also the future take shape as Ornella prepares to become a fantastic creature made of voice and dreams, destined for eternity.More...

1896-06-30A group of people are standing along the platform of a railway station in La Ciotat, waiting for a train. One is seen coming, at some distance, and eventually stops at the platform. Doors of the railway-cars open and attendants help passengers off and on. Popular legend has it that, when this film was shown, the first-night audience fled the café in terror, fearing being run over by the "approaching" train. This legend has since been identified as promotional embellishment, though there is evidence to suggest that people were astounded at the capabilities of the Lumières' cinématographe.Braveheart

2021-03-05At the age of 20, Burton Barr Jr. was held down by a group of friends while they injected heroin into his veins, which started his 22-year drug addiction. At the height of his addiction and during his darkest hour, his father came to him. He didn't start preaching at Barr, telling him that he needed to quit. He didn't talk about the hurt and the pain that Barr was causing his family. He didn't even tell Barr about the damage that he was doing to himself. He just opened the Bible to a certain scripture, gave it to Barr and told him to read that scripture every morning before he left home. The scripture was Psalms 121. 121 details how Burton Barr Jr. overcame his addiction to heroin, cocaine, crack, alcohol, cigarettes and sex by learning to harness the power and live out the words of the 121st Psalm. The Painter
